After prescan of a plurality of images on a photographic film, designation of an image to be processed and verification of the image to be processed, the photographic film is conveyed at high speed to a position where the reading conditions for the image to be processed can be set. When reading the image to be processed, the photographic film is conveyed at the same conveying speed as at the time of fine scan, and from the time point when the reading is complete, the high speed conveying of the photographic film is resumed and the photographic film is delivered.
