The rotary tube (1) has apertures (5) for receiving securing sections (6) of the mixing elements (3), the securing sections (6) being welded to the outer side of the rotary tube (1). This prevents the welding location being exposed to the aggressive conditions in the interior (2) of the rotary tube (1) in the operating state during production of activated carbon, and it is readily possible for the welding location to be inspected from the outside, and for maintenance and repair to be carried out as necessary.
