  1. An electrical connector includes a housing, a plurality of contact pins, and at least one shield plane provided on the outside of the housing. Some of the contact pins are electrically connected to the at least one shield plane to define shield contact pins and some of the contact pins are not electrically connected to the at least one shield plane to define signal contact pins. In one embodiment, the shield plate includes deformable finger portions to be pressed against selected contact pins. In another embodiment, the contacts include shield engaging contact arms, some of which are to be removed while others remain. The removal may be performed while the contacts are on a carrier strip.
