An electronic component mounting system including an electronic component mounter and a control device for controlling the mounter. When the control device detects an exhaust component during a series of component mounting operations, the control device checks a memory to determine whether the exhausted component belongs to an electronic component group consisting of a plurality of mutually substitutable components, and if the exhausted component belongs to the group, the control device designates one of the mutually substitutable components as a substitute component for the exhausted component, and controls the mounter to receive the substitute component from another component supplying device different from the supplying device for the exhausted component, and to mount it on a circuit substrate.
